Several completely derelict vehicles on an ÖBB site in Vienna-Favoriten were removed by the Immediate Measures Group with the support of MA 48 and ÖBB. The car graveyard posed a potential environmental and fire hazard for local residents.

In a derelict state, several abandoned junk cars were located on an ÖBB property in Vienna-Favoriten – directly next to a residential area and a children's playground. Following a tip-off, the Immediate Measures Group, together with MA 48 and ÖBB, took action on Wednesday.

Immediate Measures Group Removed Junk Cars in Vienna-Favoriten

A total of five vehicles were towed away, which had been parked on the site for a long time. Oil stains and numerous cigarette butts were found around the cars – a clear danger to the environment and local residents, as was emphasized.

"We are not just talking about junk cars here, but about potential dangers right in the middle of a residential area," explained Walter Hillerer, head of the Immediate Measures Group. Particularly concerning was the leaking engine oil and the fire hazard posed by the scattered cigarette butts.

ÖBB Site as a Meeting Point for Youth Groups

The site had already been the subject of operations several times in the past, as it was regularly used as a meeting point by youth groups. According to the City of Vienna, further operations are planned in the area to permanently eliminate such danger spots.
