During a large-scale traffic control in Vienna on Wednesday, almost 11,500 euros in fines were imposed on cyclists and e-scooter riders, who were penalized for speeding and running red lights, among other offenses.

During an extensive traffic control on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Vienna Traffic Department (LVA), together with the support command of the uniformed bicycle service (uFD/SPK), sanctioned numerous traffic violations. Targeted controls were conducted throughout the city from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

209 On-the-spot fines and over 100 reports

The focus was primarily on cyclists and e-scooter users – their driving behavior and compliance with traffic rules were particularly scrutinized. In total, 209 on-the-spot fines were issued during the operation. The total amount of fines imposed was 11,450 euros.

In addition, the police filed 102 reports. These are broken down as follows:

  • 39 gegen Radfahrende
  • 28 gegen E-Scooter-Fahrer
  • 35 gegen KFZ-Lenker

Maximum speeds over 45 km/h for e-scooters

Particular attention was paid to the speed of e-scooters. In several cases, speeds of 36 km/h, 45 km/h, and even 48 km/h were recorded – significantly above the permitted speed. The affected individuals were prohibited from continuing their journey.

Red light violations dominate among cyclists

Another focus was on the disregard of traffic signals. A total of 95 cyclists ran red lights at intersections. For this alone, on-the-spot fines amounting to 6,650 euros were collected. Other frequently observed violations included using a phone while riding and riding on sidewalks.
