ORF Honors Deceased Viennese Humorist Kurt Sobotka

The radio also pays tribute to the actor and satirist who died at the age of 87. Ö1 will broadcast a portrait of the versatile artist on September 17 at 2:05 p.m. in the series “Menschenbilder”. And a week later, on September 24, they will remember the legendary radio format Guglhupf, for which Sobotka was significantly responsible.
Meanwhile, Vienna’s politics also paid their respects to Kurt Sobotka. “With Kurt Sobotka, a piece of Viennese theater and cabaret history has left us,” said SPÖ Cultural Councilor Andreas Mailath-Pokorny, affected by the news of his death: “His art of portrayal was always characterized by lightness, affirmation of life, and joy of playing. […] I bow to a great artist and friend of humanity.” The Vienna ÖVP cultural spokesperson Fritz Aichinger also expressed being “deeply shocked” by Sobotka’s death: “A great actor and audience favorite has left us.”
