On Friday, a multiple-vehicle crash occurred on the B 38 in the municipality of Vorderweißenbach (Mühlviertel/OÖ). Eight vehicles were involved in the accident.

According to a police report from Saturday morning, several chain-reaction rear-end collisions led to the crashes under winter conditions. In addition to several private vehicles, an ambulance and a truck were also involved. Of the ten people involved, four were injured to an undetermined degree, one had to be taken to the hospital.

Traffic Chaos in Mühlviertel

The traffic chaos began on Friday around 10.30 am when a 47-year-old car driver from the Freistadt district rear-ended the car of a 75-year-old man from Rohrbach, who had braked due to traffic. The 75-year-old's car skidded and rammed an oncoming truck on the opposite lane. Another car driver, a 48-year-old woman from the Urfahr-Umgebung district, steered her vehicle to the right past the already crashed vehicles, but was still touched on the rear by a car driver from Lower Austria during the manoeuvre.

Fire Brigades Respond to Accident

An ambulance, which had been driving in the opposite direction behind the truck, was able to brake in time before the accident site. However, there was another rear-end collision: A 61-year-old woman from the Rohrbach district could not stop her vehicle in time and collided with the rear of the ambulance. According to the police report, eight vehicles were involved in the accident, and of the ten occupants, six remained uninjured. The accident site was cleared by the Vorderweißenbach, Schönegg and Amesschlag fire brigades.
