A 23-year-old man is suspected of having brought around one kilogram of heroin and other illegal drugs from Vienna and Salzburg to the Liezen district over several months last year and selling them in the greater Schladming area.

The transfers are said to have occurred regularly – particularly heroin from Vienna and cannabis as well as amphetamines from Salzburg were circulated according to current findings. This was announced by the State Police Directorate of Styria on Sunday.

Arrest during drug run

The suspect was already arrested at the beginning of November 2024 during a so-called "drug procurement run." According to the police, he was caught in the act. The arrest was made as part of a coordinated operation between the Vienna State Criminal Police Office and drug investigators from Styria.

Network of at least 40 people

According to the police, around 40 people were involved in the criminal network – both as buyers and alleged accomplices. The investigations are currently focusing on the exact origin of the drugs and on further potential buyers in the Schladming area.

Suspect released under conditions

After five months of pre-trial detention, the 23-year-old has now been released under conditions and after making a corresponding pledge. The proceedings are not yet concluded. The police announced that they would continue the investigations intensively.
