Hazardous Goods Transport with Deficiencies Stopped on A2

A Polish hazardous goods transport with significant technical and legal violations was taken out of service on the South Motorway. Further travel was prohibited.

Employees of the Lower Austria State Traffic Department, Hazardous Goods Division, together with technical experts from the Office of the Lower Austria State Government, conducted comprehensive heavy traffic and hazardous goods inspections on the South Motorway, towards Vienna, at the Guntramsdorf service station on March 13, 2025.

Focus Operation on A2

During the focus operation, a Polish articulated vehicle, driven by a 45-year-old Polish citizen, was stopped and inspected. It was a hazardous goods transport, carrying 23 tons of hazardous waste (UN 3077) of hazardous goods class 9 in the tank of the transport unit. The driver did not possess the required ADR training, and there was no ADR approval certificate (special approval) for the articulated vehicle, making it unauthorized for the hazardous goods transport conducted.

During the thorough technical roadside inspection, a technical defect posing an immediate danger and other serious technical defects in the braking system of the semi-trailer were identified.

Hazardous Goods Transporter with Defects Taken Out of Service

Violations of the Goods Transport Act were also identified. The interruption of the transport was ordered, and further transport was prohibited until the defects were rectified. The license plate and registration certificate of the semi-trailer were temporarily confiscated. The driver and the registered owner will be reported to the district administrative authority.
