Austria's embassy in the Iranian capital Tehran has been temporarily relocated to Azerbaijan's capital Baku due to security concerns, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Before the relocation of the embassy, more than 140 people, including more than 70 Austrians, were assisted in leaving by the embassy staff.

The ministry pointed out that the border crossing between Iran and Armenia remains open for Austrian citizens. Independent departures from Iran are therefore still possible.

The ministry is in contact with Austrians in Iran who wish to leave and have not used the previously organized options for assisted departure by the Austrian embassy in Tehran. The Foreign Office again urged all Austrian citizens in the region to register at https://auslandsregistrierung.bmeia.gv.at.
