While the summer half of 2024 (May to October) in the Alpine region brought average temperatures in May, June, and September, it was significantly warmer in July, August, and October: Some regional records were also set.

This conclusion is reached by the weather services from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in the Alpine climate balance published on Tuesday.

For example, there was the warmest August of the respective measurement series in Switzerland at the weather stations Jungfraujoch, Weissfluhjoch, and Säntis as well as in Lugano and Piotta. In Austria, according to Geosphere Austria, new August records were set, for example, in Graz, Klagenfurt, Lienz, Patscherkofel, Rauris, Sonnblick, and the Villacher Alpe. In Germany, it was the warmest August in the measurement history on the Zugspitze.

At some of the weather stations, such as Weissfluhjoch, Säntis, Zugspitze but also at Sonnblick in Austria, not only an August record was measured, but also the warmest month since the beginning of measurements.
