Salaries of Federal Politicians Will Not Be Increased in 2025

This has been agreed upon by the ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS, as APA learned. Thus, the zero wage round announced by the turquoise-green government in the summer is also extended to members of parliament. Originally, this was only planned for "top politicians". However, the states co-governed by the FPÖ are again deviating and increasing despite the line of the federal party.
Such an agreement had been expected recently, as the negotiators of a new government from the ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS are also currently busy trying to tie up a billion-dollar austerity package due to the huge budget hole. The agreement comes just in time before the last plenary session this year on Wednesday. Because if one wants to deviate from the legally prescribed adjustment factor - for 2025 that would have been 4.6 percent - a resolution in the National Council is necessary.
On Monday, the provision also passed the budget committee of the National Council, with the votes of the ÖVP, SPÖ, NEOS and Greens. An additional application by the Greens with the aim of extending the zero wage round to state politics did not find a majority. ÖVP and SPÖ were against it.
