Officers from the Lower Austrian State Traffic Department, Dangerous Goods Division, stopped a semi-truck with severe safety deficiencies during a focus action at the Völlerndorf rest station of the West Motorway (A1) on Thursday. The truck was also transporting several tons of dangerous goods of classes 3 (flammable liquids) and 8 (corrosive substances) without any labelling or safety precautions, according to the state police directorate.

During the inspection of the vehicle with Croatian license plates and a Bosnian citizen at the wheel near St. Pölten, numerous violations were detected. In addition to driving and rest time violations, speed violations and technical defects, the police added that the transport was not declared as dangerous goods transport, the driver was not in possession of a driver's license according to ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, note) and the required safety equipment and documents were missing. The continuation of the journey was prohibited.
